Server - initiated Document Dissemination for the WWWAzer

چکیده
In this paper we overview the merits of a data dissemination mechanism that allows information to propagate from its producers to servers that are closer to its consumers. This dissemination reduces network traac and balances load amongst servers by exploiting geographic and temporal locality of reference properties exhibited in client access patterns. The level of dissemination depends on the relative popularity of documents, and on the expected reduction in traac that results from such dissemination. We present results of log analysis and trace-driven simulations that quantify the performance gains achievable through the use of such a protocol.

We present two server-initiated protocols to improve the performance of distributed information systems (e.g. WWW). Our rst protocol is a hierarchical data dissemination mechanism that allows information to propagate from its producers to servers that are closer to its consumers. متن کاملA Multicollaborative Push-Caching HTTP Protocol for the WWW
We propose a caching protocol designed to automatically mirror heavily accessed WWW pages in a distributed and temporal fashion. The proposed caching mechanism differs from proxy type mechanisms in that it caches according to load pattern at the server side, instead of access patterns at the client-side LAN, in a Demand-based Document Dissemination (DDD) system fashion. This type of server init...

We analyzed the logs of our departmental HTTP server http://cs-www.bu.edu as well as the logs of the more popular Rolling Stones HTTP server http://www.stones.com. These servers have very di erent purposes; the former caters primarily to local clients, whereas the latter caters exclusively to remote clients all over the world. In both cases, our analysis showed that remote HTTP accesses were co...
